Northam
Northam is a small platinum and chrome mining town in the Thabazimbi Local Municipality (Waterberg District), on the R510 between Rustenburg and Thabazimbi. It serves the surrounding mines with a small shopping centre and a large number of guest houses and lodges catering for contractors and travellers.
History
The town was proclaimed in 1946 by E.H.J. Fulls on the farm Leeukoppie, owned by H. Herd - one of several farms originally allocated to British veterans of the Anglo-Boer War. Platinum and chrome mining on the western limb of the Bushveld Complex shaped its growth. For many years nearby farm Oppikoppi hosted the well-known Oppikoppi music festival each August (last held in 2018).
Getting there
Northam lies on the R510, about 54 km south of Thabazimbi; the R510 continues south towards Rustenburg. Roughly 150 km from Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Hot, summer-rainfall bushveld climate: hot summers with thunderstorms (October–March) and dry, sunny winters with cold nights.
