Hazyview

A busy little town close to the Kruger's Phabeni and Paul Kruger gates.

History

The town grew as a farming settlement along the Sabie River and takes its name from the shimmering heat haze that hangs over the low bushveld in summer. Perry's Bridge, now a tourist centre, was developed on an old citrus farm. Tourism expanded with the town's position between the Kruger Park gates and the escarpment.

Getting there

From Johannesburg take the N4 to Mbombela (about 330 km), then the R40 north through White River for about 60 km (roughly 4.5 hours in total). The R536 runs west to Sabie and east to Phabeni and Paul Kruger gates; the R535 climbs to Graskop. Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is about 55 km away.

Weather & climate

Hot, humid subtropical Lowveld climate with summer rainfall (November-March) and a summer heat haze; winters are mild, dry and sunny. The area is reputed to suit bananas very well.
